How to choose the right size nursery container
High-Performance Series
Thermoformed Containers
- Rolled lip: Easier to carry and less damage to the plant during transportation
- Fluted bottom: Flutes make a stronger bottom for stacking
- Extra drain holes: Better drainage with no standing water
- Bottom drain holes: More attractive look and reduces weed growth vs. side holes
- Strong container lip: Easier to work with filling the container in production, better for stacking plants for shipment. Allows for the use of potting dispensers at potting and for the use of automated equipment in moving plants around the nursery

Blow Molded Series
The heaviest blow-molded containers in the industry!
- The Scalloped Top Ring holds the container shape better, reducing trunk damage and preventing creases and bends in the container. This leads to less chance of side collapse during shipment and higher product shipping densities. Overall shipping costs are reduced by using less protective packaging material. Worker hand and wrist injuries may also be reduced.
- Rounded Top Rim means less damage during shipping.
- Multiple handle grips makes the smaller containers easier to pick up and empty containers easier to handle.
- Radiused stiffening rings result in reduced labor in preparing the product for shipping.
- Stepped Tapered Body: trees are removed easily with less labor/damage.
- Higher capacity drainage areas promotes better root growth, reduces the chance of disease and prevents product damage.
- Corrugated Base Channel reduces the chance of bottom warping.

Commonly asked questions:
Nursery pots are often referred to as a container # (example: #5 container), or by gallon size. Container numbers are really the same as gallons, though some state regulations require them to be referred to by the container #. We have nursery containers ranging from 1 gallon to 300 gallons. Please see our product tables above.
We have created a guide for you in purchasing a properly sized nursery container for your trees.
While you can grow many trees in pots, typically the best tree to grow in pots are slow-growing or dwarf varieties. Some varieties would include the Starry magnolia. Flowering dogwood, Italian cypress, Olive trees, and Apple trees. You will likely need to repot most of these trees after 3-6 years in order to continue healthy growth.
Trees can survive in pots for 8 to 10 years, though this often requires moving the plant to a larger container every few years. Potted trees will need to be watered more often and need ample drainage holes. Ultimately trees need to be planted in the ground to survive long-term.
