Commonly asked questions:
The overall make-up of the flat wire basket was so that the small tree or shrub could be supported in the best fashion. The top and side wires sustain the root ball during packaging, transport, and planting, ensuring that it gets to its planting site in decent shape. They also help the tree root itself in the soil by providing structure.
Almost all horticulturists, especially those in the landscaping or nursery industries, use wire planting baskets for their trees. This means that people who work at tree farms and nurseries, in landscaping, and in other businesses that involve planting and caring for trees use these.
When hand digging, the flat wire baskets elegantly fold around the root ball. These wire baskets are easier to use and less expensive than traditional wire baskets and are great for hand digging applications.
It is not required to remove wire baskets at the time of planting to ensure the survival and reproduction of large tree roots. However, any rope over the top of the ball should be removed, and basket loops should be bent back or removed. It’s critical to choose the right size basket for each root ball.
Roots create a complete connection of wood fibers around basket wire; roots are not entirely girdled. Translocation is possible thanks to root tissue generated after growing across the wire. There seems to be no damage to the root periderm or a break in it that would allow diseases to invade the tree.
Dig your hole large enough to allow for adequate backfilling with the proper soil. Typically the denser the soil, the larger the hole. In most cases plant the tree ball so that the shoulder of the ball is level with the ground.
